Competition
There was a wild competition, with prizes for the top three entries. The entry deadline was 3pm on the day of the event. Registration on the whiteboard and submission took place at the party. Here were the rulez rules:
  • Anything went! Computer-based productions, handheld platform productions, live performances, art, or whatever. Nobody made a mess, injured people, did anything illegal, etc. We were entertained!
  • Entries were new, original, and prepared specifically for this event.
  • Entrants had a minimum of 3 minutes for presentation. It was longer since only 3 entries were presented.
  • The competition theme was bowling, which everyone hated. You didn't have to obey the theme, but the winning entry did!
  • Computer-based productions were limited to 8 megabytes uncompressed. Art and music entries were limited to 4 megabytes uncompressed.
  • Windows and Linux productions had to be shown on the main demo machine (specs below). If you required a different platform, or needed to interface with the audio/visual system, you probably made arrangements in advance.
  • Each attendee participated in one entry maximum.
  • Remote-only entries were not allowed.
Demo machine
LiraNuna generously provided the demo machine. Specs:
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz (Overclocked to 2.78GHz @ 1033MHz FSB)
  • ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus motherboard (nForce 650i/580i)
  • Memory: G.Skill 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800MHz
  • Graphics: XFX GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 Running on PCI Express 2.0 x16
  • Audio: ASUS SupremeFX (ADI AD1988B Chipset) 8 channels (7.1), with digital output available
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2 32bit, updated with MSVC++ 2008 Redistributable
  • Ubuntu Linux 8.04 LTS (Linux 2.6.24-17-generic SMP i686 - 32bit)
Voting
The competition was judged by public voting. Those voters that followed the poorly-explained guidelines assigned a total of 50 points among the 3 entries. There were no ties, so a three-person jury did not need to determine the final results. Voting forms and writing tools were provided. All entrants voted, and couldn't give their own entry more than 10 points.

Suggested judging criteria:

  • Did the entry utilize the competition theme?
  • Was the entry relevant to the demoscene?
  • Was the entry original / creative / humorous?
  • Was the entry technically / visually / musically impressive?
Prizes
Mystery prizes will be unlocked depending on the number of valid entries. Actually, everything was given away regardless of the number of entries.
  • 3x set of mindcandy stickers (1 entry) (value: $2 each)
  • 2x choice of mindcandy DVD (vol 1 or vol 2) (3 entries) (value: $15 each)
  • buddha machine (5 entries) (value: $25)
  • tengu (7 entries) (value: $40)
  • thingamagoop (9 entries) (value: $100)
